My love of Tunisian crochet goes right back to my first design, My Tunisian Hottie! I just love the technique – it’s like a hybrid of crochet, knitting and weaving.

Don’t worry, no special hooks are needed for this design - this fun washcloth is an introduction to the technique and uses a regular crochet hook to create bands of textured stitches.

Two colours are used and are joined-as-you-go so there’s no seaming!

The sample is 7 inches wide by 8 inches tall (18 cm X 20 cm) and used approximately 30 g, 70 yards (64 m) of Patons Cotton On 8 ply (DK), 100% cotton in two different colours (approx. 15 g / 35 yards (32 m) of each colour) and a 5.5 mm (I) hook, however the cloth can be made with any cotton yarn and an appropriately sized hook.

The cloth is worked in Tunisian crochet. Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) and a fun variation are used to create interesting textures in each section of the cloth.

US crochet terms are used throughout the pattern. The equivalent UK terms are referenced in the table of abbreviations.

I really hope you enjoy this little foray into Tunisian Crochet and look forward to seeing your finished cloths.
