I wasn’t sure what to call these mitts. In neon and four colors, they look so completely different from their two color version that I could never decide on a name. The pattern itself looks like the mountain peaks of home to me, protecting and sheltering. I’m making a pair for all three of my guys, and each is such a unique person. I am so incredibly grateful for them.

To me, Thanksgiving has always been more about giving thanks for all we have and less about an idealistic and inaccurate story. And as I sat here knitting away, thinking about all that has passed in the preceding year, the mitts pretty much named themselves. The Thanksgiving Mitts don’t take long to make, and you can make them with just scraps of yarn, because the main ingredient is love. They’re easy to re-size, and snuggly to wear.

About my project

Welcome to my oddments project number two! (See the first one here.)

This has been a tough few years for many. Me too. And one thing that’s gotten me through is giving people I care about small gifts. Let’s face it: big projects are beyond what many of us want to do right now. But small bits of knitted love are so manageable, and they’re so satisfying when finished and gifted. And even moreso when they’re made from oddments.

And I wanted to share that lovely feeling with you, because we all have those stray bits and pieces of yarn here and there. They’re different weights and different colors. Some are a full skein. Some are just leftover tidbits, but you can’t throw them away! Definitely not a sweater’s worth of any one color or yarn, let alone a shawl’s worth or even a full pair of socks or mitts. You can’t imagine what to do with them, but you don’t want to part with them. Well. This is the book for you! 15 patterns to turn your scraps into loving bits of kindness that will brighten your friends’ and loved ones’ day.

All patterns have charts (if needed) and written instructions, and you can make them out of oddments. These are small projects, not big ones: the perfect size for a cozy evening or two of stitching.
