Inspired by the beautiful and historic city of Athlone (Baile Átha Luain) located along Ireland’s River Shannon, this classic, one-size, cabled hat features a K2P2 ribbed headband and a fully cabled dome - perfect for crisp autumn mornings or a night by the fire after a day of sailing on Lough Ree.

This hat has a fair amount of negative ease for a snug, although not crushing, fit for most adults. If additional ease is desired, a larger needle size would probably suffice. The patterns calls for 16-inch circular needles in 2.5mm and 3.25mm as well as 3.25mm dpns.

The Athlone Hat requires 1-1/2 skeins of Dalegarn Heilo yarn. The hat was designed for this yarn and Heilo is recommended over other yarns of similar grist for its strength, resilience, and for the wide range of colors from which to chose.

I hope you enjoy knitting this hat as much as I do!
