The Bird of Paradise is a semicircle-shaped lace shawl knitted from the top down. The shawl pattern features a beautiful repeating design that looks similar to the Bird of Paradise feathers, with an intricate center lace panel.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate
MATERIALS USED:
 Size 3.5 mm US 4 circular needles;
 Size 2.0 mm crochet hook for binding off, and for provisional cast-on (optional);
 Stitch markers, a tapestry needle (optional), and waste yarn.

YARN: The sample is shown in Aade Lõng Artistic 8/1 Yarn (100% wool; 800 m 875 yds per 100 g).
The sample shawl has required 560 m 613 yds, or 70 grams of yarn.

Note: It is recommended to use either natural fiber yarn (linen, cotton, wool, or silk) or yarn including a minimum of synthetic fiber; lace/light fingering weight yarn will be perfect for this project, approximately 500 – 800 m (550 – 875 yds) per 100 g skein.
Gauge is not crucial and can be changed to fit the desired yarn. You may need to adjust the needle size and yardage needed if using a different weight yarn. Your shawl may end up being larger or smaller depending on the weight of the yarn and your individual way of knitting.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 170 cm 67″ wingspan and 82 cm 32″ deep, relaxed after wet blocking.
