PATTERN UPDATE 7/25/22:

What was changed?

  1. The collar and armhole ribbing sections have been completely changed to use simpler techniques that I recently learned
  2. Video tutorials were specifically recorded for the Blossom Vest pattern update and are now included in the helpful links section
  3. A black and white PDF for printing has been added (There are now 3 PDFs instead of 2)
  4. A section explaining garment ease has been added
  5. A table of contents has been added for easier navigation
  6. The typos that I missed in the first version of the Blossom Vest pattern have been corrected
  7. The information on reading charts has been updated and expounded upon so there is consistency between this pattern and any future Blossom series patterns that I may or may not be currently developing ;-)

This is an intermediate level pattern (a confident beginner who knows all of the basic stitches and is comfortable enough with knitting could attempt this, but I suggest starting with a simpler intarsia design if this is your first time knitting intarsia). You need to be familiar with the basic knit stitches: knit, purl, ssk, k2tog and kfb. Other techniques that are used are the cable cast on, bind off, intarsia, duplicate stitches, and picking up stitches for the collar. If you are unfamiliar with any of these techniques, video tutorials are linked

This is a listing for a DIGITAL PDF KNITTING PATTERN, not a physical product

SIZING: refer to the size chart/sizing guide in the images for exact measurements. This pattern has set sizes for 30-52 in/76-132 cm bust. But instructions are included on how to adjust the gauge/yarn weight to create your own custom size using very simple math and the sizes that are already written. Lots of other notes on how to fully customize the vest to your measurements are included (length, neckline depth etc) NOTE: Sorry that the pictures were cut off. All the necessary information is there but Ravelry does not allow rectangular photos, only squares, so i had to crop things a little weird

GAUGE: 14 sts by 20 rows stockinette stitch = 4 in by 4 in/10 cm by 10 cm square UNBLOCKED.

MATERIALS:

  • Needles: 6mm/US 10 36 in/92 cm circular needles (or size needed to obtain gauge and preferred cable length)
  • Yarn: 3 solid colors bulky weight yarn (#5), I recommend ‘Amigo Chunky’ and ‘I love this yarn: chunky’ or you can use any yarn brand/fiber type that matches gauge
  • Spare needle (5-6mm/US 8-10) or string to temporarily place stitches on
  • Stitch markers (removeable is best)
  • A tapestry needle
  • Flexible measuring tape (optional but very helpful for finding your correct size)

APPROXIMATE YARN AMOUNTS (size 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, pattern has sizes in order and color coded):

  • Main color (A) approximately: 237g/258 yds, 268g/292 yds, 292g/318 yds, 316g/345 yds, 339g/370 yds, 355g/387 yds, 378g/412 yds
  • Flower color (B) approximately: 156g/170 yds, 176g/191 yds, 192g/210 yds, 208g/226 yds, 223g/243 yds, 234g/255 yds, 249/272 yds
  • Flower center color (C) approximately: 15g/16 yds, 20g/22 yds, 25g/27 yds, 30g/33 yds, 35g/38 yds, 40g/44 yds, 45g/49 yds NOTE: These estimates are only for the set sizes with a flower design on the front with a solid back; having the flower design on both front and back or creating a custom size will alter the amounts needed of each color. I always recommend having a “safety net” of an extra skein that you can return later

PLEASE NOTE: the pattern is separated into two pdfs, the actual pattern and the charts/Stitch Fiddle links, you receive both pdfs after purchasing.
