Almost a decade ago, my best friend from college moved to NYC. That fall, she asked if I could make her a scarf that would be fashionable for New York, but would still keep her warm with the winter winds and snow. After multiple false starts, The Brooklyn Scarf was created.

This design is subtle, yet modern. The bulky version creates a stiff knitted fabric that stands up to the cold exceedingly well! The scarf is also reversible, with the back having a rope-like appearance. It complements a wide range of wardrobes and is unisex.

This pattern includes instructions for working the scarf both in the round, and flat! The circumference/length of the scarf is completely customizable (down to the inch), making it a great option for adults, teens and kids! Pattern instructions are written so that it can also easily be adapted as a headband, cup cozy, etc.

It is recommended for ANY yarn with appropriate sized needles. For a thick, oversized, and stiff scarf, bulky (5) weight yarns (Premier Chunky Tweed was used for the one in the images) is recommended. For a looser, more flowy and springtime type scarf, lighter yarn (3-4 weight, or cotton) is recommended. Approximate yardage is specified in the pattern.

The pattern is written for beginning level knitters. It makes a great first project for those just learning too! The pattern has been extensively tested by dedicated individuals to ensure that it as easy to understand as possible. It is written in US terminology.

The price is set much lower than my other scarves, due to the simplicity of the pattern. I encourage everyone to make at least one!

Please feel free to message me if you have ANY questions regarding the pattern or if you need help with it! I’m happy to explain anything you need. It looks daunting, but once you get the hang of the repeats, you won’t even need the pattern!
