Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty.

The Emotional Journey is a simple triangular shawl worked in bias from the tip to the bottom edge.
It helped me to relax and empty my mind at the end of my days during the hard times of the Covid19 Italian epidemic, when, as soon as I was able to devote some free time to my needles, I needed some mindless and meditative knitting. I also tried to make the best use of plenty of fingering yarn left overs that I kept from other projects in the past months and years, too beautiful to be wasted.
The colors I used for my sample transition from a dark blue to a light grey; as long as I knitted, I realized the color transition was leading me in a sort of Emotional Journey from the dark of sorrow and desperation to the light of relief and solace.
This is not a pattern but a “recipe”. You can customize it as you like.
You can use as many colors as you like, or use one single color. You can gradually transition from one to another (as I did) or use contrasting colors alternating them.
You can insert the lace section(s) wherever you like (just make sure you have the right number of stitches to apply the chart) and mixing colors at your convenience.
Feel free to create your own, unique, Emotional Journey.

About My Version
One Size: 178 cm / 70” wingspan x 33 cm / 13” depth (customizable)

Yarn: fingering weight yarn, approximately 500 metres.
I used the following left overs: C1 (blu): 65 m, C2 (deep purple): 45 m, C3 (purple): 100 m, C4 (light blue): 165 m, C5 (speckled light blue): 90 m, C6 (grey): 73 m, C7 (light grey): 175 m.

Gauge: 24 sts & 44 rows = 10cm / 4” in garter stitch after blocking.
Gauge is not critical; different gauge will only affect finished size and yardage.

Needles: 3.5 mm / US 4 circular needle, 60 cm / 24” length OR straight needles.
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Notions: Stitch markers (optional), tapestry needle.
