The Fern hat comes with a story of a trip to a Botanical Garden. Walking about, I noticed the bold, graphic qualities of the fern leaves and decided that I had to try capturing that in a Hat. The result is Fern hat.
It all starts with soft garter stitch interrupted by straight lines. The lines turn into fern leaves. Fern is worked in the round bottom-up and assumes you are comfortable with circular needle.

The Fern hat – autumn and spring hat. This is not a very warm hat.

Yarn: 2 skeins of Genmou by Daruma* (100 % merino wool), 151 m per 50 g, enough to make samples and the hat.
If you are going to work with different yarn, I recommend to use foreyarn or any other slight twist yarn. If your yarn features medium or hard twist, choose for a thinner yarn than indicated in the pattern.
Tools: 3 mm (40 cm) circular needle, 3 mm (80 or 100 cm) circular needle and 4 mm circular needle long enoughcircular needle long enough for magic loop or DPN to work in the main pattern in rounds (or other size to obtain the gauge).
