Framework is a new take on a Courthouse Steps quilt pattern. The “missing” squares allow whatever you are wearing underneath the shawl to show through to be your “fourth color.”

The entire pattern is knit in Garter Stitch, with no increases or decreases, making it an approachable design for adventurous beginning knitters.

Much like a patchwork quilt, the Framework Scarf/Shawl is made by assembling small rectangles into larger squares. Once the larger squares are made, they can be arranged and sewn together using your favorite seaming method.

This pattern contains written instructions. Labeled photographs show the construction of each rectangle and the order in which to knit them.

When knitting at the recommended gauge, it is possible to make 5 large squares measuring approx. 10” x 10” (25.4cm x 25.4cm). To make a larger shawl simply use more yarn and make more squares.
