The Gastown top, constructed from the bottom up, is the perfect, boxy top. Even better, it is multi-use for your summer adventures. From a beach cover-up to drinks at the weekend, I recently wore mine while exploring the streets of Seoul!

Difficulty: Advanced beginner
Techniques: Double crochet, front-post and back-post stitch.
Construction: Bottom-up, in the round and flat
Special features: Quick project, size customization options, positive ease
Yarn weight: DK
Sizes: 9 sizes from 30-62 inch bust.

MATERIALS

  • 3.5mm crochet hook (size E) (or whichever hook size needed to obtain gauge)

  • DK weight cotton yarn - I used Zümrüt cotton yarn 100g (3.52oz) per 200 metres (218 yards). Colour ZI 1175

  • 4 removable stitch markers

  • Measuring tape

  • Tapestry needle (for seaming shoulders together and weaving in ends)

GAUGE

In main body pattern: washed and blocked:

15 stitches (5 repeats of the pattern dc, ch2, skip2) x 6 rounds = 4 x 4 inches | 10 x 10 centimetres.

Note: I am a loose crocheter! You may find you want to size down the top size or down a hook size to achieve gauge.

CONSTRUCTION

The Gastown top is worked bottom-up.

There are customization options for body length, arm depth and sleeve length.
