The Green Sweater
by Lea Stern
The Green Sweater project is based on a small child’s sweater that is found in the United States Holocaust Museum. It was knitted for 5 year old Krystyna Chiger by her grandmother in 1941. In 1943, at age 7, she and her family were forced to hide in the sewers below Lvov, Poland for 14 months to escape Nazi persecution. This sweater was one of her cherished possessions and one of the few things she was able to take with her during this ordeal. I have attempted to to recreate the pattern with as much historical accuracy as possible.
All proceeds from the purchase of this pattern will go to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
