Construction notes
The skirt is worked seamlessly from the top down, beginning with a folded waistband that encloses an elastic band for a secure and comfortable fit.
After completing the waistband, the skirt is worked in the round using circular needles- this makes it easy to try on and adjust the fit as you go.
German short rows are used just below the waistband to raise the back slightly, helping the skirt sit naturally on the waist and creating a more flattering shape over the hips.
Gentle hip shaping is worked through evenly spaced increases on both sides, following a simple rhythm that gradually widens the fabric.
The main body features horizontal stripes alternating between the main colour (MC) and contrast colour (CC), forming the foundation of the Haarlem House check design.
Vertical stripes are added later using duplicate stitch, keeping the fabric light, smooth, and flexible instead of thick or heavy.
The hem is finished with a faux double-knit border, which provides structure and prevents the edge from curling.
Because the skirt is fully customisable, you can adjust the fit, shaping, and length as you knit- perfect for mini, midi, or maxi versions.
