The House Points Cowl is a patterned cowl that was inspired by the hourglasses that keep track of the house points awarded in the Harry Potter books. When points are awarded gemstones drop from the top bulb of the hourglass into the lower bulb. But if they are lost then the gemstones retreat back to the bulb above. The strips of stockinette diamonds between lines of slipped stitches are meant to depict these ever moving gems.

This textured cowl can be made with 100g of DK weight yarn, knit in the round with a simple 10 stitch chart.

Needle size can be changed to create a fabric you prefer and the pattern can be worked as written in multiples of 20 stitches so it is easily adjustable to any width. Do take into account that if you do add extra stitches or repeats of the chart then you will need more than 1 skein of DK.

You can also make this cowl with 1 skein of fingering weight yarn if you hold the yarn double.
