The Island Top
The Island Top is a breezy, oversized V-neck tank worked entirely top-down in one seamless piece.
Starting with a provisional cast-on at the shoulder line, the back is shaped with integrated i-cord selvedge edges that form clean, finished armholes as you knit.
Each front is picked up directly from the provisional cast-on, with the i-cord carrying seamlessly from back to front at each shoulder. Both fronts feature simultaneous shaping at the armhole and V-neck edges, creating a flattering deep V-neckline.
At the underarm, all pieces join on one needle and the body is worked flat in stockinette to the desired length, finishing with a polished i-cord bind-off at the hem.
Optional crochet ties or clips at the front add a customizable closure.
Knit in cotton on 5 mm needles, this relaxed summer knit is perfect for layering over a bandeau or wearing on its own in warm weather.
Skill level: Intermediate. You should be comfortable with provisional cast-on, simultaneous shaping, and i-cord techniques.
Fit: Relaxed and oversized, designed with approx. 12 cm (4.75 in) of positive ease. Photos shown on a size S (80 cm / 31.5 in chest, 1.65 m / 5’5”).
