The Japanese bag is knitted from the bottom, up, using Magic Loop. If you prefer, you can knit with a shorter needle after approximately 8 cm.
I prefer the Turkish cast-on for this project, but that is my preference. You can also use the regular Long tail cast-on method and sew the bottom close afterwards.
The edge and the straps are knitted on thinner needles to create extra stability.
