The Kawaii Crop Top is a summer top with a short ruffle hem. It is an intermediate-beginner pattern that requires you to know how to cast on, knit, purl, as well as decrease stitches in a variety of ways. All decreases used have a written explanation and/or video tutorial provided with the pattern. Knit from the bottom up and in the round, the ruffle is worked first to your desired length followed by the body. Once the body is to desired length, the breast and back are worked flat. The top is finished by creating i-cord straps that can be made to your desired length. Kawaii means ‘cute’ or ‘adorable’ in Japanese, which you’re sure to feel in your new Kawaii Crop top!

Sizing:
This pattern comes in 9 different sizes intended to fit a bust of 71cm/28in to 158cm/62in and waist of 62cm/25in to 140cm/56in. The pattern uses the waist dimensions to determine stitch count. Testers recommended to size up if bust size is between sizes. If using a cotton yarn, your top may stretch over time and wear.

The model pictured is 5’2”, 135lb, 34D and 82cm waist in Size 3.

Size and bust measurements:
1: 1-76 cm/28-30 in
2: 81-86 cm/32-34 in

Materials:
4 (4) 5 (5) 6 (7) 7 (8) 8 skeins of Hobbii Rainbow Cottom 8/8 for sizes 1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7 (8) 9 or any other yarn that meets gauge. Approximately 328 (328) 410 (410) 492 (574) 574 (656) 656 yds of category 3 yarn.

  • Note: A stiffer cotton yarn is recommended as it will give stronger definition to the ruffle. A yarn with more drape may deflate the ruffle after blocking.

In addition to your yarn and needles you’ll also need 1 stitch marker, scissors and a darning needle to sew in ends.

Recommended Needles:
US 8/5mm circular knitting needles; 120cm/40in and 60cm/24in or 90cm/36in
Optional: US 8/5mm double pointed needles for i-cord straps

Gauge:
17sts = 10cm/4in
26 rows = 10cm/4in
Stockinette on US 8/5mm needles in the round after blocking
