The Kermode
The Kermode Cowl is a very easy to knit beginner project! Knit up a quick cowl with only one skien of yarn.
You’ve already gotten a hang of the Knit and Purl stitch, why not learn a few more stitches? This scarf is a great introduction to Yarn Overs and Drop Stitches. These stitches are commonly used in lace work and shawls.
The Kermode is very versatile and you can basically use any yarn you can get your hands on. I recommend bulk or chunky yarn to a achieve a winter/fall scarf look. The pattern itself is also flexible. Do you want larger drop stitches? Add additional YOs. Do you prefer a more structured scarf? Add more Knit and Purl rows. You can tailor this scarf easily to your specific preference!
Materials:
- 1 Skein of Bulky Yarn (I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in the photos. I have also tried with Drops Eskimo and it works quite nice as well)
- Size 15 US / 10 mm Circular Needles (or whatever size recommended for the yarn you are using), 60 cm in length
- Tapestry Needle
Stitches
- Knit
- Purl
- Yarn Over
- Drop Stitch
