This is a pattern for a knitted gun.

Everyone needs a knitted gun. They may not be aware of the fact, but they do. In fact, it’s the only gun anyone needs. An utterly useless one.

I originally made this gun for my father - a big Raymond Chandler fan, who was decorating a room in his house in a film noir style. This one is based on a Colt Official Police .38 Revolver - one of the guns used by Phillip Marlowe in The Big Sleep.

It was originally made with barrels of different lengths – 4”, 5” or 6” so you can decide how long you would like the barrel on your knitted version to be.

The gun is knitted in pieces – the main body is made as one piece and stuffed with a cardboard cut-out and the cylinder, trigger, etc. are knit as small pieces, stuffed and sewn on. The barrel is stuffed with a pencil or dowel and glued in place to the cardboard cut-out through a hole in the main body of the gun. Clear instructions with plenty of photos are given for making up the gun.

Gauge is important as the pattern has templates for stuffing the gun with and the gauge needs to be the same for them to fit. Gauge is: 5 sts per 1”/2.5cm and 7 rows per 1”/2.5cm, measured on stocking stitch
