The Library Vest is a simple cabled slip over in a style made popular in the 40’s as part of the versatile twin set. Claire wears her cabled vest with a blouse and pencil skirt, adding much needed warmth to her stylish outfit – essential for those hours spent visiting castle ruins and drafty halls with Frank as he researches the life of his ancestor, Captain Jack Randall!

Soft and slightly tweedy wool yarn produces a warm, cozy fabric with traditional staghorn cables, evocative of the Highland stags that roam amongst the heather-clad hills. The cables provide gentle shaping and lend an elegance to an otherwise eminently practical garment.

The Library Vest is worked flat and seamed before stitches are picked up around the armholes and neckline for the ribbed bands to finish it off. Designed to fit closely it can be worn alone or with a blouse or shirt underneath for that classic 40’s look.

(note: The Library Vest is based in a vest worn by Claire in season one, towards the end of episode 5 where she, Frank and Reverand Wakefield are discussing the various Jacobean uprisings that occurred leading up to Culloden. )
