The Louis Necktie
Design inspiration:
Inspired by 18th century costume represented in film, particularly the character Louis
Pointe Du Lac, from Interview with a Vampire.
About the pattern:
The scarf is worked bottom up flat in two identical pieces that are later joined together
with a 3 needle bind off. The pattern starts with the mohair ruffle which is formed with
simple increases and decreases in stockinette stitch and garter lines. The scarf length is
worked in garter stitch.
Level: Beginner friendly – if not used to using mohair, can take a little practice. I
believe that any technique can be achieved with persistence and the development of
muscle memory. Attempt the things that seem difficult and don’t be afraid to make
mistakes.
Gauge:
Mohair stockinette – 22 sts = 10cm
DK Garter – the 17 garter stitches for the scarf section measures 6cm in width.
Scarf length without the ruffle – 90cm.
Sizing: One Size, and length can be tailored.
What you need:
Needles: 2 x 4mm circular needles, any length. After the first piece is worked it is kept
on the needle and the second set is used for the second piece.
Yarn: 1 ball WYS Exquisite for scarf length and 1 ball split into two (or 2 balls for ease)
Rowan Kidz haze silk. As these skeins come with more than the scarf requires, you will
have plenty of yarn left over. Any other yarn of the same weights and gauge will be fine.
