Horseshoe crab lovers unite! This pattern was inspired by the mating swarms that you can see along the east coast of the United States every summer, as these living fossils make their ways inshore to lay eggs in sandy coasts.

This pattern has a unique, folded, double-knit collar (maybe my favorite piece of the sweater) that sits smoothly on the neck and shoulders. This collar sizes up so that plus sizes do not have a tight fit around the neck, but can be adjusted for a looser/tighter fit regardless of the size! It has double knit cuffs and a hem as well, which give the body and sleeves a nice bit of weight, especially when knit up in a light worsted weight yarn, like the Farmers Daughters Fibers Pishkun.

The sweater is intended to fit with 2-4.5” of positive ease, and a generous fit around the tapered arms with a slightly tighter wrist. There are two yoke options provided, one with 1” less room, and the balloon sleeves in the initial pattern can be modified, there is an additional sleeve construction that knitters can choose for a more tapered sleeve. Hopefully, regardless of your yoke sweater armpit preference, you’ll be able to come away from this project with a sweater that you love.
