The Lullwater
Named after the final course of a stream that runs through Prospect Park in Brooklyn…
The Lullwater top is worked in a simple and repetitive 4-row lace and cable repeat that naturally creates a wavy hem and neckline. It is worked bottom up, in the round. The body is split at the underarms then worked back and forth. With slipped stitch edges, the top requires minimal finishing.
Please note that this top has only been tested in Size A. The other sizes are mathematically determined according to the number of pattern repeats and the indicated gauge (6cm per 15-stitch repeat). I hope that pattern is simple enough to adapt as needed when working the armhole shaping and necklines.
A tip for your gauge swatch: ensure that you work your swatch for enough rows to see the waves take form. Chevron stitch contracts the width of the fabric about 1/5 compared to stockinette.
This pattern recommends using a compact inelastic fiber (cotton, silk, hemp, or linen). For instance, two strands of fingering weight Knitting for Olive Pure Silk held together to make a DK weight yarn.
