Are you looking for an excuse to -finally- make use of that gorgeous luxury skein of yarn you purchased at the spur of the moment? Do you have room for another silky, lustrous, soft shawl, one to wrap around your shoulders and make you feel like a “royal”?
Well, I know the feeling, and that is why I have created this beginner-friendly shawl that is supposed to make the best of your beautiful fingering/sport weight yarn (up to 400 yards of it) combined with up to 100 yards in a contrasting color. In fact, you can either use a mini-skein for that second color or just the precious leftovers from another project.
I am using 1 skein of TreLiz Appollon yarn as my main color and up to 100 yards of L’Atelier Fibre Laine Celeste (yes, the leftovers from my Byzance Shawl design). As you can see, both yarns have silk in common, and, while my MC yarn is semi-solid, a speckled yarn would also work perfectly. As for the CC, solid color is a safe choice, though I’m experimenting with texture as I am using a mohair-silk blend.
The aim is to have fun while knitting an asymmetrical crescent shape shawl, with the body made up of garter-stitch and a border of airy, lace details; the “royal” is a last-minute addition to the name of this fully tested and tech-edited pattern as I realized the MKAL begins on the same day a royal wedding is bound to happen in the UK, so, why not? As the saying goes, every woman is a princess or at least deserves a shawl that makes her feel like one.
