About the pattern:
As part of the December of Designers 2019 collection supporting suicide prevention efforts, The Passage sock commemorates those who have passed by marking the irreplaceable holes made in our hearts created by an untimely passing. The easy knitting rounds are punctuated by a series of eyelets that extend and reach further apart, echoing the empty spaces in our hearts that never truly shall close when a loved one takes that final tragic step to take their own life.

On a personal note, on December 14 2016 a wonderful friend took her own life in her 45th year leaving behind a wide circle of loving family, friends and acquaintances. Her passing is one that will never fully heal, never fully recover, regardless of the time that passes. This pattern, for me, is in memory of her.

Yarn Suggestions:
I suggest a tonal yarn to enhance the eyelet pattern however any sock yarn you select will be wonderful. Make it special, make it meaningful, make it uniquely you.

A Note On Heels:
While this pattern assumes that one is familiar with basic sock knitting techniques, it is accessible to the beginner with a few notes on heel construction. Please note that detailed heel construction information is not included in this pattern however links to various instructional formats are included.
