I love a good granny square.

And a granny square blanket is about as perfect as it gets.

I think a bit of it has to do with my childhood. Traveling to my Great Grandmothers house and seeing the acrylic 1970s colors (that orange, yellow, green, and brown mix) hanging on the back of the couch.

I long for those lost afghans.

So this winter, while enjoying this cold snap, I thought we could work up one of those perfect granny square blankets. I used one of my favorite yarns, Lettlopi, a relatively inexpensive worsted weight Icelandic Wool. It comes in nearly 50 colors and is just scrumptious. Icelandic wool is lighter, warmer, and more water resistant that other wools and that makes sure it will last lots longer!
