This tam is called The Pink ‘Un only because it is so pink. (The Pink ‘Un was the football supplement published with the Eastern Evening News which dealt mainly with Norwich City Football Club and was printed on pink paper. It still exists as a website).

This pattern includes two versions of the chart, one showing just the pattern and one showing the colours I used in my tam.

I used what yarn I had to hand which was a mix of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift and Jamieson and Smith 2ply Jumper Weight. I used 9 different colours in my tam, 4 in the background and 5 in the pattern, but you can play with colours as you wish. The joy of these hats is seeing how the pattern changes with different colour choices and I look forward to seeing what other hats are knitted from this design.

Requirements:
About 50g of yarn in total. I recommend Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift or Jamieson and Smith 2 ply Jumper Weight, which are the traditional yarns for fair isle colourwork. My finished tam weighs about 43g.

2.25mm US1 and 2.5mm US1.5 circular needles. You may adjust the size of the tam by changing the needle size.
Stitch markers – one for the start of the round and 7 others between repeats.
Wool needle to sew in ends.
