Jupiter is part of The Planets Collection. A collection of shawl patterns inspired by the orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst. The lace pattern was created using Naomi Parkhurst’s method for encoding words into knitting patterns, in this case the word Jupiter. The sample was knit using Lush from Dancing Leaf Dyeowrks in the colorway French Garden Party. This yarn consists of one strand of silk mohair blend and one strand of sock weight yarn plied together. The result is an airy yarn with a beautiful halo. Visit their store to see all of the color ways available:

This shawl is knit from the bottom up and can be worked until it is just the size you want. You could work this pattern holding your own strands of mohair and sock yarn together, or you could use any weight yarn from fingering to aran weight. This pattern works well with solid, semi-solid, gradient, tonal, speckled or even heavily variegated yarn.
