Uranus is part of The Planets Collection, a collection of shawl patterns inspired by the orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst. This shawl features a lace pattern created using a system of encoding words into knitting patterns developed by Naomi Parkhurst. In this case, the word magician was used to create the lace pattern (the title of the movement for Uranus is The Magician.) The sample was knit with two colors of Sport yarn from Duck Duck Wool, but this pattern could also be worked in fingering or DK. Instructions are included to make the shawl wider and/or longer.

Materials
Yarn - Sport from Duck Duck Wool, 328 yds (300 m),
2 skeins - the sample used Gum Wrapper Ring (Color A) and Glacier (Color B). The sample used almost all of each skein. If your gauge is different than the sample you may need two skeins of each color.

Needles - US size 4 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge below. 32”/80 cm circular recommended. If you are using a yarn different from the sample, use a needle that gives you a fabric you like.

Gauge - 17 sts by 32 rows equals 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch and Section B lace pattern, blocked. Gauge is not overly important as long as you are happy with the fabric.

Finished size -56”/142 cm long and 15 1/2”/39 cm wide

Miscellaneous- darning needle for weaving in ends
