Cosy and fun, the perfect combination for this Christmas! If you’re looking for a sweet new accessory for your celebrations this year, then I have the hat for you.

This pattern is written in US terms.

Materials:
6.5mm hook
4.5mm hook
Darning needle
Button (optional - for removable pom pom)
Pom pom maker
DK yarn - brown, cream, red and green (meterage is detailed in the listing photos) - I used the following brands: Stylecraft DK in Cream, Stylecraft DK in Walnut, Stylecraft DK in Lipstick, Women’s Institute Green Premium Acrylic in Green

This top down hat is made using 2 strands of DK held together, and is super cosy because of the chunky feel of the two strands. I would suggest the difficulty of this hat would be intermediate, as it requires working in the round and working multiple stitches over multiple rounds into one stitch. The pattern has been written to require minimal sewing.

You will need enough red yarn to make a pom pom (size of your choosing), and about 5 metres of green yarn.

I would recommend choosing a size about 2 inches smaller than your head measurement, or 1 inch smaller if your measurement is 16 inches or less, but your choice depends entirely on the kind of fit you would like. The recommendation provides a fitted feel, which will loosen over time.

Gauge notes:
The gauge to ensure you get the right circumference is:
3 rows of fpbp dc11 which should be 1 inch up and 4 inches across
The gauge to ensure you get the right hat length is:
6 rows if dc11 which should be 4 inches up. The across measurement is irrelevant.
