The Rita Quilted Coatigan
The Rita Quilted Coatigan is an oversized, boxy-fit layering piece that combines stockinette, reverse stockinette, and seed stitch squares for a beautifully textured, quilt-inspired fabric.
Construction details:
-Drop-shoulder construction: the shoulders are shaped by starting at the back of the neck and increasing to full width, then working flat to shape the back armholes.
-The front chest panels are picked up from each shoulder and worked individually to shape the neckline and front armholes.
-Once complete, the front and back panels are joined and worked flat to the desired length.
-The sleeves are picked up and knit in the same quilted square stitch repeat.
-The hem, neckline, and cuffs feature robust 2x2 ribbing, finished with a 3-stitch applied I-cord.
-A faux I-cord seam runs along the buttonband, underarms, and side seams for a polished, tailored finish.

Yarn
Super Bulky Weight Yarn: 100g / 80yds
Single strand of Super Bulky Weight Yarn:*
Grams: 900 (1100, 1300) 1600 (1900) grams
Yards: 720 (880, 1040) 1280 (1520) yards
Meters: 658 (804, 950) 1170 (1389) meters
10% waste and yardage needed for up to a 6x6” swatch has been factored in.*
If you choose to knit a longer coatigan, you will need additional yardage per inch of length:
16 (19, 22) 25 (28) yards / 14 (17, 20) 23 (26) m
The sample uses four strands of yarn held together. To achieve this, each strand used to achieve gauge must match the total yardage. For example, if gauge is achieved by holding yarn double, multiply the recommended yardage (of single strand super bulky) by 2. For three strands, multiply by 3; for four strands, multiply by 4, and so on.
To knit with the exact yarn as the sample: 2 strands of Malabrigo Worsted (100 g/210 yds/192 m) and 2 strands of Hedgehog Fibres Alpaca Boucle (100 g/678 yds/620 m) were used. You will need the amount below of each. waste & 6” x 6” swatch have been factored in.
Malabrigo Worsted: 685 g/1440 yds (838 g/1760 yds, 990 g/2080 yds) 1219 g/2560 yds (1448 g/3040 yds)
Hedgehog Fibres Alpaca Boucle: 212 g /1440 yds (259 g / 1760 yds, 306 g / 2080 yds) 377 g / 2560 yds (448 g / 3040 yds)
