The Robin Beanie
Worked in the round from the bottom up.
The stitch pattern is worked over a multiple of 4 stitches.
The vertical stripe is created by working one knit stitch in the accent colour throughout, stacked directly above itself each round.
The crown shaping is worked within the purl sections only. Pattern repeats are grouped into sections, and decreases are shifted across these sections to create a smooth, even taper.
Sizes are based on standard head circumference measurements and include negative ease for a close fit. If between sizes, work the larger size or adjust length as needed.
Hat length may be adjusted by working more or fewer rounds before beginning crown shaping.
Approx. yarn required:
60 (70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 140) m
Exact yardage will vary depending on size and length worked.
Colourwork note:
When changing colours, carry the unused yarn loosely at the back of the work or catch it every few rounds to avoid long floats.
Tension note:
Achieving the correct gauge is important for fit. If your hat is coming out too large or too small, adjust needle size rather than stitch count.
Fit note:
This hat is designed with negative ease and will stretch to fit. For a looser fit, work one size up.
Crown shaping note:
Decreases are not worked evenly around the hat. They are placed within specific pattern sections and shifted between rounds to maintain the vertical stripe and create a more gradual crown.
Finishing note:
For best results, lightly block to even out stitches and open the ribbing.
