About: The Sardine Sweater is an intermediate, top-down, circular-yoke, colorwork pattern. Knit in a blend of cotton and wool, this t-shirt style sweater is perfect for the spring and summer and the ultimate companion to wear while sipping from one of my handmade sardine mugs! This design features a relaxed fit, a cropped or full length hem, optional additional bust shaping, and suggestions for long sleeve modifications, allowing you to customize it to your liking.

Whether you’re reveling in the sunshine at an outdoor cafe in Lisbon, living out the fish girl summer of your dreams at a secluded trout stream in New England, or simply trying to romanticize your midweek trip to the grocery store by putting on a fun outfit, the Sardine Sweater is the the ultimate wardrobe staple you didn’t know you were missing.

Suggested Fiber: Portuguese fiber was an obvious choice for this pattern. Retrosaria is based in Lisbon, and is home to a wide variety of unique and thoughtful produced yarns. “Mungo” is a blend of wool and cotton, making it perfect for summer temperatures. Mungo has a slightly rustic feel at first, and softens with blocking and wear. It is made entirely from pre-consumer waste generated by Portuguese spinning mills. For a long sleeve, colder weather version, Retrosaria Rosa Pomar’s “Beroia” is a gorgeous option. Beroia is a worsted weight, 100% Portuguese wool spun from free grazing Bordaleira Serra da Estrela sheep.
