This hat was inspired by the fabric tams typically worn by Scottish men with their kilts. It’s been reinterpreted with new confidence and dash. The long colour repeat has been used in counterpoint-- with a long garter strip forming the brim, and then stitches picked up along its perimeter, giving lots of perpendicular colour and texture interest. Note that the yarn is knitted at a much tighter gauge then usually recommended, for extra body and structure.
