The Sims Plumbob
That hexagonal bipyramid shaped plumbob from the Sims games.
Its basic shape is rather simple to crochet, but making its sharp edges is something I had to think about. I tried several embroidery stitches, then different modifications of a blanket stitch, until I figured out that if I twist a blanket stitch, it looks almost like a raised single crochet stitch, exactly what I wanted. So yes, this pattern includes a lot of surface embroidery, but don’t let it discourage you - it is really satisfying and meditative.
You can make your Plumbob from any yarn of any gauge. From my experience, the optimal material is mercerized cotton - it is smooth and gives less friction during the embroidery stage.
