After seeing my pattern for ‘the Stare’ hat, my husband said it would be funny to have the same image on socks and to make it look like it was peeking out of your shoes. Credit when credits due, it was a great idea, so I give him (and you), ‘The Stare Socks’

These socks are knit from the cuff down, but if you prefer to knit from the toe up, you should be able to adjust the pattern accordingly.

They also use an Afterthought Heel, which is now my FAVOURITE feel for knitting socks.

Yarn Used:

  • This pattern calls for a Fingering Weight Sock Yarn. Depending on your foot size, you will need approx 60g for your Main Colour (MC) and 40g for you Contrast Colour (CC). I have a woman’s 9.5 shoe size and I used 50g for my MC and 36 g for my CC.
  • I knit my socks with Colour Adventures Cashmere Sock (and my feet thank me) in Pink Grapefruit for the MC and Nyx for the CC.

Needles:

  • 2.25mm needles in your preferred method of knitting small circumferences. (DPN’s, Magic Loop, 9” circular)

Note: I found that during the colourwork portion I was able to maintain the proper tension best when I used a larger (2.75mm) 9” circular, as I have struggled with colourwork in small circumferences. If you struggle with the same, you may want to give these a try.

Gauge:

  • 30 sts / 4”

Sizes Available:

  • Adult M/L and Adult XL. Adult M/L should fit most, but the XL option is available for those who need the extra room.

Additional Materials Needed:

  • Scissors
  • Darning Needle
  • Dental Floss and Waste yarn for afterthought heel
  • extra 2.25mm DPN, or circular needle for afterthought heel
