Introducing our first original design, knit in summer-perfect Moondrake Co. Merino Linen!

Inspired by Mary Oliver’s poem, The Summer Day, The Summer Day Shawl features swaths of stockinette and butterfly stitch accented with eyelet rows, evocative of the movement described in one of Oliver’s signature poem. I-cord edges create a polished finish surrounding the shawl’s interior flow, bordered on each end with cross stitch and garter ridge sections. Choose two skeins of one color and a third contrast to create a color block or faded shawl, or use three of the same color to knit as a solid. This generous rectangular wrap is a soothing rhythmic knit, and is easily customizable by varying the number of section repeats or by alternating color sections. It’s perfect for cool evenings and over air-conditioned spaces in the summer, and can double as a scarf year round.

Our design features Moondrake Co. Merino Linen, a single-ply fingering weight merino/ linen blend that’s summer-perfect and the epitome of “blocks beautifully” and “a joy to knit and wear.” And Rachelle created a custom colorway just for The Summer Day Shawl--Montana Sky!

Kits for the shawl are available here and include the pattern and 3 skeins of Moondrake Co. Merino Linen, single ply fingering, 90% superwash merino/10% linen, 393/100g. And the first 10 people to purchase a kit will also receive a copy of Mary Oliver’s Devotions, a compilation of the beloved late poet’s work.
