This is a simple pattern to make, with the crossed details giving interest & a lovely texture. The main body is worked in the round up to the armpits & so involves only a tiny bit of sewing (or none at all if you prefer!) It is practical & comfortable for children to wear in the summer against the skin if a cotton/blend yarn is used. But it also looks great in other yarns on girls & boys when worn over a base layer like a traditional British tank top! The design is also easily customisable in terms of fit & length, & includes 7 sizes from Age 1 to 14 (chest size 19” to 31.5”).

The pattern has been thoroughly tested by a large group of fabulous testers who have tested every size to ensure accuracy & clarity. Photos or video links have been added where additional instruction may be helpful.

Skill level: Advanced beginner/intermediate

Materials required:

250 - 550 metres of any of any #3 weight dk yarn (labelled 28 stitches x 22 rows = 10 x 10cm) Yarn pictured is King Cole Cottonsoft Crush dk.
4mm crochet hook (or hook to obtain gauge)
Tapestry needle & scissors
2 stitch markers

Sizing: The pattern includes seven sizes from Age 1 to 14, actual chest circumference from 19 to 31.5”

Finished measurements: The top has a positive ease up to 3”, with finished measurements of 21 to 33.5”

Construction: This tank top is constructed from the bottom up in the round. The body is then split into front & back to form the armholes, neckline & shoulder. The bottom ribbing is crocheted directly onto the bottom of the body. There is the tiniest amount of sewing (at the shoulders) & this can be replaced with slip stitches if preferred. The neckline & armholes are finished off with an edging of single crochet (US terms)/ double crochet (UK terms).

Gauge: With a 4mm hook in the two row pattern repeat, 15 stitches by 8 rows = 10cm by 10cm square
