Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour

-- Suzanne lyrics and music by Leonard Cohen

The Sun Pours Down is a crescent shaped shawl that begins with a simple pin hole cast on. The fascinating eye of the peacock lace motif at the top of the shawl blends into sun rays through the body of the shawl, ending in a lace or beaded border. There are two finishing options available, either a smooth finish for those running tight to the yardage requirement, or an interesting scalloped eyelet finish for those with a bit more yarn on hand.

Materials Needed
- @500-525 yards of heavy lace weight yarn
- 3.5mm (US 4) needle or size needed to make gauge
- 28 stitch markers to mark lace motifs
- additional 31 markers to mark eyelet edge repeats (optional)
- 285 seed beads (optional)
- 0.5mm steel crochet hook for adding beads or your favourite beading tool for placed beads (optional)
- darning needle for weaving in ends

Gauge: 26 sts x 36 rows in stocking stitch unblocked
Note that I do not consider gauge essential for shawls. Rather, I recommend getting a fabric you like and going from there. However, if you have a limited amount of yarn then matching the pattern gauge is important.
Gauge is given for the unblocked fabric because the rate of blocking varies between people.
