This design was inspired by two different stitches. It was only after doing a row, I realized that I was doing a stitch “wrong” but I really liked the way the my beanie was looking! I decided to write down what I was doing and after referring to my stitch books, I realized I had combined elements from two different stitches to make my own. I was combining elements from the Star Stitch and Faux Broomstick Lace. I don’t consider myself to be a crochet expert by any means, and I am not claiming this stitch to be my own, but for this pattern I will refer to the stitch as a Sunburst Single Crochet. This design is actually very easy, we are just doing some extra work to make 4 single crochet stitches. I love making easy things that look harder than they are! For this pattern I am using size 5 chunky yarn. I recommend using a chunky yarn for the brim and the main color of the hat. When I decided to make another hat, I realized my selection of variegated size 5 yarn was limited so I substituted two strands of size 4 worsted weight yarn. When using two strands of worsted weight yarn it can be a little trickier to do but, if I can do it, I know you can too!
