The Technicolor Cardigan
Introducing Squid School’s latest pattern… in glorious technicolor!
Meet the Technicolor Cardigan! This cardigan pattern is inspired by the many cardigans and twinsets that were sweeping the fashion trends of the late 1940s and early-to-mid 1950s. It it deceptively difficult to design a “classic vintage staple” that doesn’t feel overly simple or monotonous to knit. This cardigan represents my favorite types of knits: mindless knitting sections with a few challenging bits peppered in, along with interesting and sleek construction techniques.
This cardigan is the companion knit to the Carmen Miranda Jumper pattern. The cardigan features a miniature version of Carmen’s square color blocking along the waistband and sleeve cuffs. Pair the garments together and you have yourself a Technicolor Twinset!
One of my favorite components of the cardigan is the stockinette button bands. The Technicolor Cardigan utilizes a simultaneously-knitted facing that gets tacked to the inside to create that chic look. Not to mention it adds an additional layer of structure to both band edges!
Like always, my garment patterns use a body measurement x gauge system of pattern writing, making them fully size inclusive and tailored to your personal measurements. There are plenty of resources at Squid School to get you started on this method of pattern instruction!
This pattern (and the Carmen Miranda jumper shown underneath) is available exclusively at Squid’s School of Vintage Knitting! Come join the fun and make your own twinset!
