The Upside Toque is a stranded-colorwork hat, designed to be worked in two contrasting colorways. This pattern includes two sizes; child and adult, and is written for Worsted weight yarn, making for a warm & cozy hat.

The Upside Toquepattern is part of the design collection for our 12th annual Red Scarf scholarship fundraiser! All proceeds from the sale of this pattern through December 31, 2022 are applied directly to our scholarship fund, administered by Foster Care to Success.

This Red Scarf scholarship pattern is knit in Bare Naked Wools Festivus 7.0 Worsted (100% Organic Merino) in the limited-edition, custom colorway Hollyberry. A portion of Festivus yarn sales go directly to the scholarship fund.

Finished Size: Circumference: 25” 64cm, Length: 11.5” 29cm

Yarn requirements: Bare Naked Wools Festivus 7.0 Worsted, 218 yards / 199 meters per 115 grams (Worsted weight) in two colors.

Main Color: 95 (112) yards / 87 (102) meters

Contrast Color: 37 (44) yards / 34 (40) meters

Sample reflects: “Birch” Main Color & “Hollyberry” Contrast Color.

Gauge: Stranded Colorwork: 20 sts / 21 rounds per 4” (10 cm) worked on US 10 / 6 mm needles in the round, post blocking.

2x2 Rib: 20 sts / 28 rounds per 4” (10 cm) worked on US 7 / 4.5 mm needles in the round, post blocking.

Needles: Needle A – US 7 / 4.5 mm or three sizes smaller than main needles, DPNs or 16” (41 cm) circular needles (brim) • Needle B – US 10 / 6 mm or size needed for Stranded Colorwork gauge, DPNs or 16” (41 cm) circular needles (main needles) • Needle C – US 9 / 5.5 mm or one size smaller than main, DPNs or 16” (41 cm) circular needles plus cable length needed to work magic loop for small circumference (crown decreases)
