Designed for Disconnecting

Winter markets. Holiday shopping. Chilly pink fingers. These mittens were inspired by carefree moments outdoors with family and friends. An adult iteration of a childhood favourite, The Winter Market Mittens use the most indulgent of natural fibres, inviting knitters to be present for every decadent stitch. The thumb? It’s intentionally fluffy—these mittens are not made for texting! A small, but powerful reminder to disconnect from our phones, and reconnect to our lives.

Finished Measurements
9.5” (24 cm) long (cuff to fingertips) x 7” (18 cm) circumference—fits average female hand. Pattern accommodates longer hand size, but not wider.

(CC) Blue Sky Fibres Brushed Suri (67% Baby Suri Alpaca, 22% Fine Merino, 11% Bamboo; 142 yards 130 meters / 50 grams): 1 skein in shade #900 “Whipped Cream”.

One 9” (23 cm) circular needle size US 9 (5.5 mm)—see note below.
One set of four double pointed needles size US 9 (5.5 mm).
One set of four double pointed needles size US 10.5 (6.5 mm).

Change needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Note: I worked the hand portion of each mitten using a 9” (23 cm) circular needle. If you cannot obtain, or dislike using, a small-circumference needle, double-pointed needles may be used throughout.

Gauge
7.5 stitches / 11 rounds = 2” (5 cm) in Stockinette Stitch in MC on 5.5 mm circular.
