The Wool of Ice and Snow is a triangular shawl worked from the bottom up. Simple knit and purl stitches are used to create a fully reversible fabric with a multi-dimensional look. The colorway I used is called “Winter is Coming” and like The Wall of Game of Thrones, this shawl is built block by block out of icy blues and steely greys.

This heavily textured pattern showcases the slow changes of gradient yarns beautifully, but will also make a great accessory in solid, speckled or variegated yarns. The added pom-poms are a playful embellishment but not a necessity. I used a 2-inch pom-pom maker for mine and needed 6g for each, 12g total.

There is no need to block your shawl. The idea of the design is to have a bouncy fabric that is super cozy to wrap up in. But, if you’d rather have a flat fabric, feel free to block your shawl - keeping in mind that your wrap will grow past the measurements given below.

Yarn:
1 skein of The Fibre Studio Fifty Shades of Gradient (100% Superwash Merino; 980 yards/ 896 meters; 200g) in Winter is Coming, or similar fingering weight yarn

Notions:
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Final measurements:
Relaxed, unblocked and not including the pom-poms:
53 inches/ 135 cm along neck edge and 26 inches/ 66 cm at deepest point
