Theresa Mary Cardigan is a warm (in terms of color - I used the colors auburn and charlotte) and materials (a blend of cotton, viscose, alpaca, nylon and wool) fall/winter sweater with a vintage flair. The continuation of pattern from hood and along fronts makes for a nice flow and the seed stitch throughout sweater makes the cable Patterns pop out, giving a rich look and easier to incorporate increases in raglan shaping.

The sweater is knit from the top of the hood down with markers placed at neck line for fronts, back and sleeves. Incorporating the button bands into the pattern eliminates the need to go back and pick up stitches. Although I chose a warm wool blend yarn, a vintage colored cotton would make a lovely spring/summer sweater.

The pattern for the sweater was inspired by a sweater I designed and knit for my mom, who recently passed away. When the sweater was returned to me, I decided, in tribute of my mom, to reknit the pattern in a yarn and color she would have enjoyed and publish the pattern in hopes of keeping her spirit alive as others enjoy knitting and wearing the Theresa Mary Cardigan. The detail of cables (giving it a sliming effect) and seed stitch make the sweater a delight to knit and even more so to wear and just for fun I placed the button holes on the left side which can easily be changed to the right.
Enjoy!

Although I have included stitches required for two sizes, adding additional seed stitches into the pattern would not effect the cable patterns. The body of the sweater calls for 4 repeats of the Double X Cable pattern. If the desired length of sweater is longer then the pattern calls for, additional rows of ribbing could be added. For a size 34, I needed between 5 and 6 skeins of yarn and 7 skeins for the size 36. In addition you will need a 16 and 29 inch circular needle and double pointed needles for the sleeve cuffs. Other notions needed are: darning needle, cable needle, stitch markers, scrap yarn to hold sleeve stitches and 10 buttons or more if sweater is longer length.
