This is my first published pattern, and was intended to show what to expect from me as a designer, The Pantextural (read: lots of different textures).

This unique shawl is worked side to side like a triangular shawl with steady increases up to the midway point and then steady decreases until the bind off. I-cord edging is used to cinch in the sides to create a stingray-like silhouette.

Types of stitches/techniques include:

  • German Short Row (Double Stitch)
  • Daisy Stitch
  • Cables
  • I-Cord Edging and Bind Off
  • Intarsia
  • Basic Increases and Decreases
  • Basic Knitting and Purling

Finished Measurements: 65.9” (167.5 cm) Depth x 20.5” (52 cm) Width

Yarn Requirements:

  • All yardages are approximate and include 5% buffer. Gauge will impact yardage.
  • MC: Fingering weight (437yds/100g) – 790yds. Color distribution should have a 1:3 ratio of pooling to background color. More yarn will be necessary if the frequency of the pooling section is higher.
  • CC: Fingering weight (437yds/100g) – 262yds of a coordinating colorway

Suggested Yarn:

  • MC: Sheep Graffiti Pooling Around (85% Extra Fine Superwash Merino/15% Nylon) 437yds/100g – 2 skeins
  • CC: Sheep Graffiti Sweet Sock (85% Extra Fine Superwash Merino/15% Nylon) 437yds/100g – 1 skein

Gauge:
24 stitches x 32 rows = 4” (10cm)
Measured over stockinette stitch flat after blocking
Suggested needle: US 5 (3.75 mm) or size to obtain gauge with a recommended cord length of 30” (75 cm)

Recommended Notions:

  • At least 2 stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Cable needle
  • Scissors
  • Optional: US 1 size needle, locking stitch markers for German Short Row Double Stitches, blocking pins and blocking wires
