Thew vest
This charming little vest is designed to be a practical and timeless layering piece for babies and children. It is perfect for chilly days worn over a long-sleeve tee, and equally useful as an extra layer under a jacket during colder months. Vests are always my go-to to keep my little one warm.
The vest is worked bottom up in Half fisherman’s rib (worked on the “wrong” side) since I love the curly texture of the result of this pattern. Also, it provides the vest with elasticity to be able
to wear it easily.
I added some easy-to-work details to this design, like armhole edges and a polished finish for the neckline while keeping the pattern very beginner friendly.
Adaptations can be done to achieve different lengths for your growing child.

The pattern was designed with 5 cm ease until 1 year and 10 cm ease for older sizes. For selecting the correct size, measure the chest, add the ease and choose the size that is closer to that number.
The vest is knitted in the round from the bottom up. At the underarms, the work is divided and the upper front and back are worked flat separately. The shoulders are then sewn together.
Finally, stitches are picked up around the neckline and worked in the round for a polished finish.
