This warm over-sized beret is an easy project that can be knit in an evening. Wear it floating on top of the head for a fashionable look, or pull it over the ears when the temperature drops.

Though this is meant to be an floppy over-sized beret, many people have found it too big for their tastes. Try any or all of these mods:

Sizing Tips

  • Knit entire brim portion on 8mm needles.
  • Increase only to 72 sts.
  • Work an inch less in length before beginning the decreases.

Design Tips

  • Instead of the featured brim, try using one-sized-smaller needle to work K1-P1, or K2-P2 ribbing for an inch.
  • The increases do create tiny holes. You are free to substitute. For a tighter knit, try Kf&b, M1, or a lifted increase.
