ICELANDIC LOPI YARN
The Icelandic sheep has developed over centuries of isolation and rough climate. This has resulted in a wool fleece with unusually long outer fibers, with tough and water-resistant qualities, combined with soft inner fibers that isolate against cold temperature. This means a material that is both durable and functional. Added to that, the yarn is produced only natural energy from Icelandic geothermal power, creating a sustainable production.

The lopi yarn is produced in different weights, bot spun and unspun. This pattern is adapted for létt-lopi, a 2-ply yarn that gives light-weight garments that work perfectly for both indoor and outdoor use. More info is available at Istex.is.

Þingvellir
Þingvellir (pronounced “Thing-vet-lire”) is an Icelandic national park where the North American tectonic plate meets the Eurasian tectonic plate and it is one of the few places in the world where you can literally walk between two continents, as the plates have torn apart and created a walking path between them. Þingvellir was also where the world’s first parliament was held in year 930 a.d.

GENERAL
This sweater is knitted seamlessly in the round. Pattern and decreases are worked from chart. The round begins and ends on left side of body, and on yoke on the left side of the back. When one skein ends, don’t tie the new skein on – join ends by felting them together. This will give you less ends to weave in, plus a nicer looking garment. For tips on knitting techniques, like the kitchener stitch, check knittinghelp.com.

SIZES
This pattern is unisex. To make the sweater more feminine, add waist shaping or bust darts (not included in the pattern). For the right size, get the measurements of the intended wearer’s favourite sweater. The sweater also tends to stretch a few cm lengthwise after washing.

GAUGE
18 stitches = 10 cm measured on stockinette stitch using 4.5 mm needles. Check gauge, adjust needle size if needed.
