The Thirteenth Doctor scarf was inspired by the colours in the scarf worn by Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who. I chose 15 colours from Stylecraft Special DK range which sounds like a lot of money but actually they are very cost effective at less than £2 per 100g ball.

I had lots left so you can make multiple scarves from most of the shades - the only colour you will need to buy for a second scarf is the N (mid blue shade) as it takes over half the ball. To make it even more cost effective, work only 18 rows instead of 30 in this shade, to get two scarves from one ball.

Thirteenth Doctor is a reversible scarf design, with an added twist (or three!) Firstly, it’s knitted sideways, so although you have a lot of sts on the needle, you don’t have to knit so many rows. Secondly, the fringe is KNITTED IN, so once you cast off, and sew in the ends, it’s ready to wear. And thirdly, the fringe is made up of little twisty tassels that are so easy to work.

I started the design with the Preppie scarf pattern, which is free here but the Thirteenth Doctor scarf is wider and longer, and obviously includes the yarn requirements and instructions for the rainbow stripes.

If you choose a different yarn, or are searching through your stash right now, you will need the following approximate yarn amounts:
A (bright red) = 50m
B (dark red) = 43m
C (mauve) = 43m
D (red) = 43m
E (orange) = 43m
F (yellow) = 86m
G (sage) = 43m
H (green) = 43m
I (turquoise) = 43m
J (dark green) = 43m
K (light blue) = 43m
L (navy) = 43m
M (royal) = 43m
N (mid blue)= 215m
O (bright pink) = 50m
