For some time, I have been thinking about a hat in the style of the ubiquitous Canadian work sock. Not just the colours - but echoing the structure of the sock - the machine made cast on, the 1 x 1 ribbing, the flat rib of the body of the sock…
With a little je ne sais quoi added..
After working up a feminine hat with some ease in the crown - The Lady Hat - I realized I needed another version - suitable for guys and kids.
The Other Hat omits the crown decreases and comes in four sizes, from toddler to man size.
The Alternate (or Rib) cable cast on is a ribbed cast on that is firm, stretchy, great for hats and, yes, socks!

The Lady Hat knits up in one size that will fit most women’s heads.
The Other Hat comes in four sizes - XS, S, M, and L.

I used Holst Garn Supersoft held double - it comes in every colour you could ever want - but any fine fingering held double or any DK yarn in a wool or wool blend that meets the gauge would work, too…

Less than one skein is needed for the MC and CC1; only a few meters will suffice for the CC2!
